What is a Team Building Exercise An activity that causes people to interact with others or to think about the way they interact • A chance to learn more about teaming • A chance to practice the concepts & skills of teaming • A chance to develop that teaming feeling
Why do a Team Building Exercise • Further the goals of having PDMs • Networking • Knowledge • Raise the energy level • Have fun • Make people want to come back

When Should You Conduct the Exercise? • Before dinner • Use as networking / ice breaking • During dinner • Keep people engaged & involved • After dinner • As the main topic of the evening • Before, during and after dinner
How to Conduct a Teaming Exercise Before the PDM • Select an appropriate exercise • Understand the purpose of the exercise • Gather & prepare materials • Review the steps in the exercise • Practice the exercise During the PDM • Explain the exercise to the attendees • Conduct the exercise • Debrief the group After the PDM • Evaluate the results
Conducting the Exercise • Stay playful • This is supposed to be fun • Break the rules • Be flexible around the circumstances, audience & situation • Don’t focus too much on the instructions • Encourage people to participate & have fun
Debriefing the Group • Ask for feedback • What did you see happen? • What did you learn? • How could this enhance a team? • Did you like the exercise? • Point out what you observed • Summarize the results • Reinforce the lessons
After the PDM • As usual, survey the attendees and make adjustments
