Reflecting on PL • Use your Smart Phone or other electronic device to connect to a Google Doc to answer the question, there. • If you do not have a QR Code reader: • Go to this page to access… • http://www.jennyray.net/prof-learning.html
Talk with your table group… • The person whose birthday is closest to today is the note taker for the table. • Use the white paper and markers at your table to write the Professional Learning topics/initiatives that you can describe. • Choose someone to share with the large group in 5-8 minutes.
Where are we going? Examining components of the Kentucky Framework for Teaching (adapted Danielson 2011)
Count Around Jigsaw • At your table, count around 1 through 5. • Go to the designated tables for 1s, 2s, 3s, etc.. • At your table, read your domain (1s read Domain 1, e.g.). Highlight important portions that you want to be sure to discuss. • Discuss with your group the important attributes of your domain so that everyone can share the group’s input with their original table group.
Find the Domain Activity • Read the short vignette on your card and use the post-it notes to jot evidence of a domain and related components. • Choose the area of the room (designated by the Domain number) that you think best fits your card. • Once everyone has chosen an area, begin reading your vignettes until a trend is noted and discussed. Your group might choose to read aloud all the cards.
Participant Choice Jigsaw • 1C: Setting Instructional Outcomes • 1E: Designing Coherent Instruction • 1F: Designing Student Assessments • 2B: Establishing a Culture for Learning • 3B: Questioning and Discussion Techniques • 3D: Using Assessment in Instruction • 4D: Participating in a Professional Community
Accomplished & Exemplary • Compare the Accomplished and Exemplary columns of your component. • What moves a teacher from Accomplished to Exemplary?
Vignette: Ms. Bloom • Read the vignette, individually. • Use Component 2B from the Framework and determine the Performance Level you think best fits this teacher. • Discuss with your table group.
After lunch, please sit with your grade level or subject area team.
Effective Teaching • “Teacher Quality has been consistently identified as the most important school-based factor in student achievement (McCaffrey, Lockwood, Koretz, & Hamilton, 2003; Rivkin, Hanushek, & Kain, 2000; Rowan, Correnti & Miller, 2002; Wright, Horn, & Sanders, 1997), and teacher effects on student learning have baeen found to be cumulative and long-lasting”(Kain, 1998; McCaffrey et al., 2003; Mendro, Jordan, Gomez, anderson, & Bembry, 1998; Rivers, 1999; Sanders & Rivers, 1996).
