  4. Beliefs and Expectations • I hold the highest expectations for myself, my students, and our classroom community. • Students should be independent and capable of problem-solving everyday situations. • No two children learn in the same way; therefore each child must be recognized for his/her own abilities, interests, ideas, and needs. • Our classroom is safe, respectful, and comfortable for all students to take risks with their learning. • Parent/teacher relationship is essential. You and I are partners in educating your child.

There is ample time to complete any work your child has missed while ill. NO homework is given to children going on vacation. All papers, notices, and work are saved and will be given to your child when s/he returns to school. Please make sure your child writes his/her name on all homework.

  15. Nightly Reading • A Reading Log will be sent home on Monday. Nightly reading should be at least 15 minutes per night. It should be a combination of your child practicing to read independently and reading aloud. • The record sheet should be sent back to school on the following Monday.

  16. Math Homework • Math homework will be sent home most nights. The homework will be a page reviewing the work we did during the day. This homework should be returned the next day.

  17. Report Card • Report Card Indicators • Please do not be alarmed if your child gets a 2. To earn a 3 for an indicator they must be able to do the skill/task independently and consistently. • If N/A is in a box then it says N/A for every student in the class and grade level for that specific indicator • Report cards will continue to be online (not printed out)

  18. Behavior Management • Praise and positive reinforcement are the primary tools used to manage the classroom. Individual accountability includes earning “Good Job Tickets.” Once a child has received 10 Good Job Tickets they can trade them in for a reward coupon. Good Job Ticket

  19. Mystery Reader • At the end of the week parents/relatives are invited into the classroom to read a story to the class. This is a surprise to your child and should be kept secret until you arrive. • There will be a signup link for you to pick a Friday that works best for you. • We will do this at 2:30PM on Fridays. Please arrive 5 minutes before so that you can check in with the office.

  20. Birthday Celebrations • Birthdays are a quick celebration during our snack time where we sing and recognize the birthday student.  • You can send in goody bags, but please DO NOT put any candy/food inside the bag. You DO NOT have to send in a goody bag. • Birthday invitations may only be distributed through the class if everyone is included (entire class or all boys/girls.) There are 22 students in our class.

  21. Class Allergies/PTO Parties • We have some students who are allergic to the following: • The only outside food that can be brought into the classroom is for the 3 PTO sponsored parties. (Halloween, Winter, End of the Year). Allergies will be kept in mind when the food list is being prepared. • Please let me know if your child has a dietary restriction. (not allergies)

  22. Social Media • If you have any issues or concerns about the classroom or school issues, I kindly encourage you to contact the school via phone or email. We never want any student or parent to be nervous to approach us directly. Through direct communication we are sure we can always find a solution! • Throughout the year I will be sending you class pictures. Please do not post these on any social media sites. You are more than welcome to post pictures of your own child from school events.
