CURRICULUM • We will be following the COMMON CORE STANDARDS in all subjects • You can find these in entirety at www.doe.k12.de.us • Students review STUDENT LEARNING MAPS daily in both math and ELA • These standards are reflected in all we do
In ELA we cover READING, WRITING, SPEAKING, LISTENING • Phonics • Comprehension (Strategies) • Fiction (Story) and Nonfiction (Informational) • Fluency • Vocabulary • Grammar • Words Their Way (spelling patterns) • Writing Traits (6 + 1) • Writing Genres (Informative/Explanatory, Narratives, Opinion) • Handwriting without tears ELA
In Math we will be focusing on the following topics: • Number system • Counting • Addition • Subtraction • Geometry • Data Analysis • Measurement • Patterns • Money • Time • Fractions • WE WILL DO THIS THROUGH INSTRUCTION, GAMES, HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES AND LOTS AND LOTS OF MANIPULATIVES MATH
In SCIENCE we will be focusing on the following: • Weather • Solids and Liquids • Organisms SCIENCE
In SOCIAL STUDIES we will be focusing on the following: • Going to school • Good Citizens • All about people • Looking back • The land around us • Jobs people do SOCIALSTUDIES
RULES CONSEQUENCES (These were made by the students) 1) BE NICE TO OTHERS 2) PAY ATTENTION TO THE SPEAKER 3) USE HAND SIGNALS 4) HANDS and FEET TO OURSELF (No hitting, smacking, slapping, spitting, etc) 5) FOLLOW DIRECTIONS THE 1st TIME *Made by me FOR FOLLOWING RULES 1) Dolphin Dollars – DOJO SHOW AT END 2) Class Cone or Pencil Topper For The Day SHOW 3) Positive Response In Daily Behavior Book SHOW 4) Verbal Compliments 5) Class Clap FOR NOT FOLLOWING RULES 1) Warning 2) Class time-out (What would be a better choice) 3) Out of class time-out 4) 15 Minutes off recess AND note in book 5) OOPS!! Referral *At any time if a behavior is severe, consequences will go out of order BEHAVIOR
HOMEWORK PACKET HOMEWORK FOLDER *Students will receive a homework packet each Friday and it is due the following Friday. *Homework is ALWAYS to read a little to you each night (Unless otherwise noted) *Please review with them and sign *Students are to put it in their homework folder to return (If you want MORE homework, I will be sending home 1 minute reads and you can refer to the page in the handout that says “Ways to help at home”.) *The homework folder is to be brought home EVERY NIGHT and returned EVERY DAY SHOW *All communication will be in this folder *It will be sent home even if there is nothing in it - to develop good habit *I go through the folders EVERY DAY and PUT THEIR THINGS IN IT EVERY DAY HOMEWORK
