http://www.harshaskinhairclinic.com Dermatology - Seborrheic Dermatitis Seborrheic dermatitis is a common chronic disease of the skin rich in sebaceous glands (face, skin folds, scalp). It is believed that the main reason for the development of the disease is an increase in the skin growth of the fungus Pityrosporum ovale, Malassezia furfur. This microorganism is present in the skin of healthy people, but in small concentrations. Under adverse conditions, the body loses its ability to control the growth of pitirospore fungi, and their number increases significantly. This occurs under the influence of the following factors: violation of the gastrointestinal tract and liver damage to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and bile ducts with helminths and protozoa stressful situations immunodeficiency states hormonal imbalance The characteristic clinical symptoms of the disease are peeling and inflammation of the skin, accompanied by itching. The classic option is the symmetrical involvement in the pathological process of the skin of the scalp, hairline, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard and mustache. Small, floury white scales appear on the scalp. There may also be yellowish-red scaly spots with fairly clear boundaries. Seborrheic dermatitis must be differentiated with various similar diseases, such as psoriasis, impetigo, dermatophytosis, lupus erythematosus. Special examinations are not required; a clinical picture is usually sufficient to make a diagnosis. Modern methods of treatment include the elimination of the above factors contributing to the occurrence of seborrheic dermatitis, as well as the use of local antifungal drugs.
