What is literal poetry? • Occurs when poems do not have a deeper, figurative meaning. • The poet is only writing about the surface level topic.
How do you determine whether or not a poem is literal? • Are there symbols that could stand for other things? • If yes, there is a figurative meaning. • If no, there may not be a figurative meaning. • Does the other intend for the poem to stand for something else?
