Sphinx • The Sphinx was a monster with the body of a lion, the wings of a bird. • What is it that has four feet in the morning, two at noontime, and three at nighttime? • The answer to the riddle is man. • Man crawls on four legs as a baby, stands upright as an adult, and walks with a stick as an old man.

  9. The Harpies • Could fly as fast as the wind, and their feathers were as hard and as strong as armor.
