Our Pushcarts • Our pushcarts were made out of team spirit. We made the pushcarts to the best of our ability. • The teams tried very hard to make their pushcarts. And I’m glad everything turned out.
What did we investigate We investigated the steering, the brakes, the bolts at the bottom of the push cart and the roll bar. With the other pushcart we had to add some things and take away a few things. The brakes needed a spring, the steering had to be stronger and the roll bar needed to be higher.
Our recommendations We recommend that whenever you’re working with a big group of people just work together and listen to each other. Don’t try to do every thing at once take your time and don’t rush things or they won’t work out the way you expected. • Consult the NRMA website for help and don’t forget to ask for advice if you are unsure. Have fun!!!
Our Design Ideas Some ideas included: adding headlights, putting in motors and some people wanted to add sirens. We didn’t include these because we didn’t need these for the criteria of the cart and because we didn’t want them! With our models their were a lot of different designs. Some small some big. But the most interesting one was when we had to make the models be able to move. It was great!
How we made cart 1 The body is made from recycled wood. We used an old picnic chair for the driver’s seat. The wheels were bought new as we had trouble finding the right sized wheels from recycled scooters The steering mechanism is simple – using a rope to control the front wheels. Our braking system is made from recycled wood and a spring. A work in progress....early stages
How we made cart 2 We used recycled wood and old bike parts to make the body and steering. The braking mechanism is recycled wood and a spring – easy for the driver to control. The cart is painted with left over house paint. We contacted Bob Pascoe Smash Repairs and they donated our seatbelts. The basic design is there....now to add the final touches...
Preparing for the Event Creating our drawings and making styrofoam models. Making cane models Our prototypes The pushcart
Evaluation • When we constructed our pushcarts we really had to think a lot about safety issues and make sure that our finished carts met the safety criteria. • We learned that teamwork is the most important thing when you’re working with a big group of people. And that no matter what you do and the time length, no matter if it’s big or small you have you can achieve anything!
