The Athlete • Born on October 5, 1965 in Montreal • Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) at the age of 15 broke the points record for one season • Drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984 • Considered to be one of the greatest ever

The Hardships • Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1993 • He went for radiation treatment during the season • On his last day of radiation he flew to Philadelphia for a game and had a goal and assist • He also had chronic tendonitis of a hip flexor muscle • He had chronic back pain, it was so bad other people had to tie his skates
The Foundation • The Mario Lemieux Foundation • Stared in 1993 • Helps people with all kinds of cancer • The goal of the foundation is to find a cure for cancer • The Foundation has also established the Austin Lemieux Neonatal Research Project • He also does a lot for the City of Pittsburgh
