And in the shadows of those craters is water ice. • Mercury is the roman name for “The Messenger” • Mercury is made 70% metal, and 30% silica. • Scientists have sent space probes to take pictures and orbit around the planet. Fun Facts; • You can see Mercury with your own eyes when the sun has just set, or when it is about to rise! • It is the smallest planet • It is the closest planet to the sun

  3. Venus • Fun facts one day on Venus is equal 117 earth days • Because the surface is so hot, none of Venus' acid rain ever reaches the surface, but evaporates before it reaches there. The only thing considered as weather is the different sorts of lightening bolt storms. • Venus is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. • The atmosphere; Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen.

  4. Mars • Atmosphere; CO2, nitrogen and argon • Features; rust, volcanoes. Canyon systems, river beds and dune fields • Got the name from Greek Gods meaning God of War • USA had sent 19 missions, learned what surface was like, and features. 3 fun facts • Mars has 2 moons • Is earths sister planet • Once had water

  5. Jupiter • Atmosphere; hyrdrogen, & helium • Features; Clouds and Tornadoes • USA had 4 missions to jupiter. They got photos showing jupiters Great Red Spot • Has 63 Moons • Is the first of the four outer planets • Largest planet in solar system

  6. Saturn • Atmosphere; Hydrogen, & helium • Features; rings • Saturn got its name from Roman gods, God of Argiculture • They have sent 4 missions to Saturn. Taking pictures learning about rings, moons, & atmosphere.

  7. Uranus • Atmosphere; Hydrogen, helium and methane. • Features; Clouds, has faint rings, 27 moons, & blue • Name; Roman gods. Father of Titans. • Human Technology; 7,000 pictures of Uranus.

  8. Neptune • Atmosphere; Hydrogen Helium & Methane • Features; Winds, clouds, and storms. Faint rings, 13 moons. • Name; Named after Roman God of Sea • 2 missions taking pictures about its features and atmosphere • Last planet in Solar System.

  9. Pluto How do you know it’s a planet? • Must be an object which independently orbits the sun. • Must have enough mass so gravity pulls it into a roughly speroidal shape. • It must be large enough to dominate its orbit. • Pluto was demoted from being a planet because it shares its orbit and it flies inside the orbit of Neptune.
