  3. Basic MarcEdit Procedure • Add 049 (KGAL,KDR1,KWSM,TQQQ,etc.) • Edit first 856 • $z and • EZProxy prefix • Add a 2nd 856 for remote access instructions • Other edits as necessary

  9. Nipping problems at the bud • Try to load records manually first • Indicator was missing, found lines out of order • I usually make a “Prep document” in Word with things I need to replace then I just cut and paste • Rename file slightly every time I change it

  11. Nipping problems at the bud (2) • Pay attention to record count – once I noticed that not all records were effected and I need to edit some records. • American Broadside vendor – American Antiquarian Society – they want to know what edits I need before I see a sample!

Problems that cropped up • Don’t forget indicators or \\ when putting editing files • Record count didn’t match when replace 856 subfield z, because their wording was different. • On one occasion I couldn’t read the records, but then I sent them through MarcEdit and it fixed them so I could read them. (Don’t know how)

  13. Problems that cropped up (2) Netlibrary records come through as .bin files – just change to .mrc. Learning Express Library records were missing 245 and 404 indicator 2 (non-filing characters) Problem with wrong Netlibrary file

  14. Bulk Import concerns • If you manually load some sample records, make sure that you click “remove from file” in your Preference or that you load starting from next records when bulk importing. • Bulk Import http://kln.passhe.edu/admin/kutzdb/cgi-bin/bulkimport.cgi

  15. My Questions • When bulk importing how do you change the MFHD defaults? • How do you change the default for the bulk import settings.
