Why filter rainwater? • The water in a raindrop is one of the cleanest sources of water available, but can absorb gases, soot, and other particles as it falls through the sky. • When it reaches a roof, it can be • exposed to herbicide or pesticide sprays and animal droppings. • A filter is needed to remove those impurities.
Competition and comparison Competition: • Competition is very minimal • Filters on the market include debris removal Comparison: • Our filter removes impurities collected in rainwater through the use of charcoal • Plants fed purified rainwater grow healthier and faster
Assembly • Remove items from bucket • Place o-ring onto down stem • Fasten locknut • Wash each medium then layer • Coarse gravel • Pea gravel • Sand • Carbon • Sand • Pea gravel • Coarse gravel
Testing and Evaluation • Test #1 • 2 layers Coarse gravel • 2 layers pea gravel • 2 layers coarse sand • 1 layer activated carbon • Flow rate of 0.2 GPM • TEST #2 • 2 LAYERS COARSE GRAVEL • 2 LAYERS PEA GRAVEL • 1 LAYER ACTIVATED CARBON • FLOW RATE OF 5 GPM
