Background to the research Aims of Research • Explore impact the CAUK programme has on participating businesses • Explore the impact the CAUK has on individual employees Methodology • Telephone interviews • Over 100 employees • 85 businesses • Spectrum of size scale and geography Career Academies prepares students for the world of work through guru lectures, mentoring, workplace visits and internships.
Case study 1: NHS online mentoring project Brightside is working with the NHS to introduce school pupils to the wide range of careers – from frontline surgery to back office support . • Collaborative working: NHS trusts, NHS Employers, Dept of Health, schools, JCP, NHS Careers, Inspiring the Future, TUC • 3 distinct cohorts ; opt in for all • Incentives for NEET cohort
Case study 2: GET IN GET ON Get In, Get On is an innovative virtual work experience programme designed by the Financial Skills Partnership and Brightside. • Learning about ‘job ready skills’ • Self directed with support from industry mentor • Flexible & time bound
Case study 3: Smarter Futures The Smart Start Experience gives students the chance to spend a week at Allen & Overy and gain a real insight into the world of business followed up with mentoring; • Sustained intervention • Blended mentoring • Incentivised • Talent pipeline
Recommendations • Change the perception of engaging with YP: HR initiative not ‘just’ outreach • Internal Marketing: invested interest • Record the development of skills: empower the individual volunteer • Facilitate internal networks: build and support don’t replicate and isolate
