Weekly Objectives • Students will demonstrate mastery of rhetorical appeals in an essay, reading comprehension, and Stop/Go strategy by taking a ten week assessment. • Students will understand and utilize Stop/Go strategy as way to understand the Standard English conventions of sentence structure and punctuation presented in English ACT passages.

“Superman and Me” • How does Alexie learn to read? 4th paragraph • Why do you suppose Alexie learns to love reading? Use the text to support your answer. • What does Alexie mean when he states,“I didn’t have the vocabulary to say “paragraph” but I realized a paragraph was a fence that held words.” 3rd paragraph • Symbolically, what does the “paragraph” represent? • What does Alexie imply when he states, “ I loved those books, but I also knew that love had only one purpose. I was trying to save my life”? 7TH paragraph
Stop/ Go • All STOP punctuation separates two complete ideas. • If there is an incomplete idea ANYWHERE in the sentence, we must use GO punctuation.
