What are the possible or probable futures emerging from various themes? • Health is accepted as a basic right with open access and full coverage for all. Human-based design – “a check up from the neck up.” • Mental health and substance use are in tandem as a focus for all health concerns in order to achieve optimum outcomes. • Behavioral and physical health occur in a single system of care. • Measurement and technology are key levers in advancing all of health care, especially behavioral health. Purchasing outcomes. • Access to my health information/history will be comprehensive and real time.
What are the possible or probable futures emerging from various themes? • The concept of place is not a barrier. • The business model in play shows value, understand payor-beneficiary link, and provide adequate revenue streams for sustainability and innovation. • Communities succeed by taking ownership of their infrastructure that supports health wellness, and quality of life. • Wellness-driven health care. • Personalized medicine.
What compelling role and/or contribution does behavioral health play/bring? • Experts in helping individuals change, building relationships, and transforming lives; we build human and social capital. • Behavioral health could assist in bending the cost curve. • We have developed a skilled peer workforce.
What does this mean for leading for the future? • Leadership is a bottom-up approach that is driven by the “why” and the community moves to define “how” and “what” in a continuously evolving cycle. • Talk with people and professions we don’t normally include in our discussions and decisions. • Change our language. • Behavioral health as a player needs to bring to the table solutions, clarifications, and a value proposition. • Behavioral health leaders need to present as partners, not special victims. • People can see and hold the future in one hand and the present in the other. Comfortable with vague and unknown. • Leaders who are innovative thinkers and use their vision and purpose to see opportunities in the environment.
