  4. Dynastic Cycle • History always repeats itself • New Dynasty claims “Mandate of Heaven” and reaches height • After several generations becomes “Aging Dynasty” and loses mandate • Problems arise, such as rebellion, famine, Invasion • New Dynasty rises

  5. Mandate of Heaven • Shang Di or God gives Dynasty authority to rule • If Dynasty loses moral character or are no longer powerful • They can be overthrown • Ex. Shang by Zhou
