  1. Is their a connection to when a metal was discovered and how reactive the metal is? Hayaan Nishad 8A

  2. Less reactive metals were discovered before the more reactive ones.

  3. The reason for this is that less reactive metals are usually discovered on their own and not part of a compound. Before modern technology, metals had to be seen by the eye. A lot of metals also could not be mined by simply hacking away at it with a pickaxe, so a lot of metals stayed undiscovered till technology advanced.

  4. A lot of metals have to be extracted with electrolysis. An electric current is passed through the metal to stop it from reacting with the air or other elements. Through this process, metals like Sodium, Magnesium, and Calcium can be extracted.

  5. Metals like iron and lead are extracted with furnaces. They have to be heated and then extracted.

  6. Technologies like electroyisis and furnaces came later on, so less reactive metals that could be obtained without technology were discovered before the more reactive ones.
