Q1: MEANING OF HEALTH Not ill: 89 Mental health: 1 Well being: 9 Not depend: 1
Q2: HEALTHY LIFESTYLE • Not all participants answered this question. Of the 64 completed questionnaires, main concepts mentioned were: • Nutrition (58) • Exercise (42) • Mental Health (13) • Love & acceptance from family/friends (7)
CONCLUSIONS 1 • Respondents have a traditional / medical approach to concept of health. • A significant percentage however, describes healthy lifestyle in a way that is closer to the concept of health as well-being, agrees that health is influenced by our choices and understand the importance of daily care.
CONCLUSIONS 2 • But overall, respondents seem to adopt a rather passive approach to health care, many expect to be educated by medical staff and rely on traditional/conventional educational methods. • At the same time they seem to be over-confident of their knowledge, although they do not participate in relevant events, because ‘there’s no free time’.
CONCLUSIONS 3 • Influence of cultural factors / socially established habits was also obvious (e.g. smoking, belief in traditional medicine) although it is also obvious that current trends / alternative approaches are present (e.g. healthy environment, emotional fitness). • Finally, they emphasized the role of the cultural center and the municipality, something expected as all respondents were residents of the local community.
GENERAL CONCLUSION • There is a long way to go for a substantial change in attitudes. • More information needs to be available concerning basic concepts. • Innovative and non-traditional methods need to be clearly explained to target population and be linked with established knowledge as well as with future benefits.
