Goal of Questionnaire • The purpose of the questionnaire is to establish which level of technical knowledge is available among the Content Providers in order to aid Technical Partners in: • Planning the implementation activities; • Identify partners who need special attention and close follow-up in order to meet project goals; • Getting an overview of technologies being used; • Identifying existing, implementation-ready repositories.

What can the organisation do itself? • 75% of the organisations have competence within MLA disciplines • 86% of the organisations knows how to perform a regular software installation • 29% of the organisations can do development/programming work • 73% of the organisations runs and maintains databases
What external resources are available? • 15 respondents have stated that they will bring along technical support to the workshops • 40 respondents have stated that they do not need support from additional technical support
Envisaged support requirements? • 37% of the respondents think web based support will be sufficient • 49% of the respondents think E-mail and forum support would be good • 13% of the respondents would like phone support • 17% (9) respondents would like on-site support (visits)
Bandwidth Availability • 3 respondents: less than < 1 Mbps • 7 respondents: 1-2 Mbps • 10 respondents: 2-4 Mbps • 7 respondents: 4-10 Mbps • 30 respondents: > 10 Mpbs
Platforms used • 31% of the respondents run Windows servers out of which Windows 2003 is predominant • 31% of the respondents run various flavours of Linux
Databases used • The most commonly used databases are: • PostgreSQL (39%) • MySQL & Microsoft SQL Server (both 27%) • Oracle (16%) and • Flat files (11%) • A multitude of other database systems are also in use
Technologies used • PHP is the most frequently used programming language with 40% of the respondents saying that they are using it • It is followed by Java/JSP and PERL with 21% • ASP.NET, C++ and Visual Basic also represent about 10% of the responses each
Repository products used • Most respondents have custom systems which are only used at their site or a very limited number of sites • 3 respondents use Dspace • 1 respondent use Fedora Commons • 1 respondent use Greenstone • 19 respondents (!) use dLibra (Poland) • 35 respondents say that their collections are already OAI-PMH compliant • 20 are not OAI-PMH compliant • 3 respondents state that their content is not yet available on the Internet!!!
