Overview of 2007-2009 • September 2007:A-Team received recommendations from Bryant Smith on how to best increase number of ethnic minorities and international students at Keuka • December 2007: Separation of the offices of Multicultural Affairs and Resident Life • January 2008: Multicultural Affairs webpage created at http://life.keuka.edu/art-religion-culture/multicultural-affairs • January 2008: Revised bias and harassment language in Student Handbook

Overview of 2007-2009 • April 2008: Formation of Keuka College’s Diversity Taskforce • August 2008: Diversity workshop Understanding the Diversity Rationale for Keuka Alfreda Brown, EdD Interim Chief Diversity Officer, RIT • January 2009: Bias Response Team created within the department of Student Affairs

Overview of 2007-2009 • January 2009: Campus wide definition of diversity endorsed by the College’s Trustees • February 2009: Revision of policy for Computer Network related issues The use of lewd, indecent, harassing or bias-related language on the Keuka College email or message boards is strictly prohibited and considered a violation of College policy as outlined in the Student Handbook. Penalties for use of lewd, indecent, harassing, or bias related language will follow the guidelines set fort in the Keuka College Student Handbook. • February 2009: Collaborated with FYE on common read • May 2009: Adoption of the College’s Diversity Taskforce Strategic Plan (2008-2011) by the members of the Diversity Taskforce

Overview of 2007-2009 • May 2009: Multicultural Affairs Student Advisory Board established • July 2009: Taskforce submitted series of recommendations to President Joe Burke and Administrative Team • August 2009: Campus wide diversity workshop Diversity: Challenge, Threat or Opportunity Stan Byrd, University of Rochester

  7. Overview of 2007-2009 • August 2009: International flags representing cultural heritage of students, faculty and staff hung in Geiser Refractory • August 2009:“Common Ground” Brochure createdfor the office of Admissions

  8. What’s Next? Phase II • Continue the on-going and recurring initiatives of Year 1 • Assess Year 1 initiatives • Develop programs and best practices to ensure an inclusive environment at Keuka College • Foster development of First Generation program with the assistance of Admissions, Academic Success at Keuka Program, and Student Affairs

Phase II cont… • Evaluate curriculum and collaborate with Faculty to encourage inclusiveness in curriculum • Identify appropriate resources to enable the Diversity Taskforce as well as the Office of Multicultural Affairs to continue to do the work needed to support students of color and other under-represented groups

  10. Phase II cont… • Recommend appropriate diversity training opportunities for students, faculty and staff in order to increase cultural competency • Develop assessment tools to evaluate campus climate • Conduct campus climate assessment – both qualitative and quantitative
