Vocabulary • 1. Laws-a rule of conduct agreed upon by a higher authority. • 2. Taxes- contribution given to support government and required persons. • 3. League of Women Voters- a democratic institution in which women try to get people to vote. • 4. Civic Duty- duties that each citizen is required to due by law. • 5. Civic Responsibility- responsibilities which are fulfilled voluntarily.
Notes 3 c • Duties of citizens • Obey laws • Pay taxes • Serve in the armed forces, if called • Serve on a jury or as a witness in court, when summoned • Citizens who choose not to fulfill these civic duties face legal consequences.
