Why ISE? • non-profit organization • focus on immersion, language learning • not a vacation or a “fly-through” • Code of Conduct • offers home-stays • best deal for $$ • Friendly, knowledgeable staff
ISE Mission “To inspire and educate students of the world through experiential learning across cultures.”
Requirements • successfully complete Spanish III or IV • if drop Spanish midyear or not successfully complete: DROPPED from the trip without reimbursement! • have proper documents for travel • current, valid passport • signed notarized parent permission form • accept, sign, and live by Code of Conduct
Program Package • 10-day “Hola Madrid” • $3495+ 4 meals • leave from Minneapolis • leave after June 20 • return before July 4 • need minimum of 8 participants
Itinerary • Day 1: departure; en route to Madrid • Day 2: Madrid; Palacio Real, Museo del Prado, Plaza Mayor • Day 3: excursion to Segovia; Acueducto, Alcázar • Day 4-8: Family Stay • Day 9: Madrid; additional sightseeing, Flamenco Dance • Day 10: return to U.S.
Insurance/Financial Aid • Basic medical provided with program cost • trip cancellation (medical-related) • family combined annual income <$50,000 • average $464 this year • dependent on need • Request application in writing by Nov 15 • other local options available
Fees • Late fees/missing materials: $40 • 2 weeks late: CANCEL • reenroll: $40 • return check: $40 • weekend travel: none • fuel surcharge: none • extras for souvenirs, extra snacks, etc
Family Stay • volunteers - not compensated • families acquired through schools sharing same goal; many are teachers, friends of educational system • families maintain normal routine • one student per family to maximize experience • Dear Family letter
Cancellation fees • nonrefundable: $100 • Nov1-Nov 30: $350 • Dec 1- Jan 31: $500 • After Feb 1: TBD • 30 days prior to departure: no refund possible This assumes no further fees to SH
Payment Schedule • June 10 for early bird discount (Oct 1) : • all paperwork • $500 deposit • November 15: $1000 • January 15: $1000 • March 15: remaining balance
Awards - up to $550 • Most Valuable Traveler: $250 • 2 students per group nominated • entered in pool of nominations to be drawn • Best Photo: $50, $100, $150 • special moments or scenes • Best Family letter: $50, $100, $150 • ISE Alumnus Scholarship: $2000
Summer Hosting • Possible $450 savings on package • June 26-July 31 • Camp July 7-18 in MN • A few boys are left to place • Hosting with friends can be fun! • Don’t need to travel to host
