What is a “Capstone” ? • culminating activity completed in senior year • project focused on a student’s personal interest, career path or academic pursuit • synthesizes classroom study and real world perspective • students demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired K-12 • students demonstrate their ability to apply key knowledge and skills by planning, completing and presenting a culminating project

Essential Process to cultivate Capstone in school and community Planning timeline for students that begins prior to the senior year, including specific milestones School-wide program coordinator Regular monitoring and recording of each student’s progress by in-school adult advisor/mentor Program handbooks (timelines, rubrics, etc.) Rigor equivalent to one credit of high school work Connections to Student Success Plan Clearly articulated scoring tools Inclusion of Capstone in key school resources and communications 5 Capstone Components:V. SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
