5. Do I have to study abroad? In order to graduate ALL International Business students must spend a minimum of a semester abroad. Eligibility You must pass ALL your 2nd Year classes at the first attempt, with no compensated passes, and achieve a weighted average of 55% for 2nd year in order to proceed to your study abroad.

6. How does the student exchange programme work? • Spend one or two semesters at a partner university overseas • Follow classes which are a match for your Strathclyde curriculum • MDP 3 will be done by distance learning for the period abroad • Exchange period is a pass/fail and, assuming you pass, you will receive credit for the period abroad

8. Where can I study? List of Business School partner institutions is on the Business School exchanges website - http://www.strath.ac.uk/business/undergraduate/international/ European – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden Non-European – Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan etc In general there are 2/3 places available at each partner.

9. When do I apply? • You will apply during semester 1 of 2nd year. You will be e-mailed about meetings which you should attend. Once you have completed the Strathclyde application you will be nominated to a university abroad and will then have to complete that university’s application procedure. • You will be asked to put 4 areas of the world in order of preference – North America, Australasia, Europe and Asia. • The exchange place allocated to you will link to your curriculum to achieve best added value for your exchange period

10. Do I pay Tuition Fees? • Tuition fees are payable to Strathclyde in the normal way ( if applicable). No tuition fees paid to partner university. • Students who pay fees at the overseas rate will continue to do so.

11. Cost • Realistically it will cost you more than if you stayed at Strathclyde. • Additional costs include flights, insurance, visa, accommodation etc • An estimated cost of £4000 for one semester on exchange

12. Funding Self-funding • Student Loan • Personal Savings Other sources of funding • Apply for Erasmus grant if go to Europe • Apply to Neil Hood Memorial Fund if go to non-European country • Research Trust Funds, Scholarships etc

13. Neil Hood Memorial Fund • If you are applying for an exchange outside Europe you may wish to apply to the Neil Hood Memorial Fund • Usually grants available annually for Strathclyde business students • Application and further info online - www.strath.ac.uk/business/undergraduate/international/outgoing/neilhoodfundscholarship/

Students - Talk to exchange students here in your classes - they have come from our partner universities – find out from the students what their university and city is like- Talk to Strathclyde students who have studied abroad- attend the meetings organised by the Exchanges Team Resource Centre - Read the folders containing information on locations and universities Website - Follow the web links on our website to our exchange partners’ websites

16. Remember • The exchange period is your responsibility – we can help but you have to be prepared to work at researching the partners and matching with an institution which offers your curriculum • The exchange period is not a holiday and you will have to work hard • You need to be adaptable, resourceful and willing to embrace change and different cultures. Won’t be the same as at Strathclyde

17. Next steps • Make sure you have an uptodate passport at the start of your 2nd year. Your passport requires to be valid for 6 months beyond the end of your exchange period. Please do not leave getting a new passport until you have been allocated an exchange place as this may cause delays with your application and visa if required.

18. Next steps • If you are a non-native English speaker and are allocated to a non-European partner you may require an updated IELTS or TOEFL score in order to meet immigration requirements. Please bear this in mind as IELTS and TOEFL results only last for 2 years.
