OBJECTIVES • We will know how to articulate concrete ways to improve upon negative situations. • We will understand components of a healthy relationship. • We will state what is important to YOU in a relationship – values and opinions,
Relationships • Relationships are bonds or connections between people. • Relationships affect your physical, mental and social health.
Compromise • Compromise is the result of each person’s giving up something in order to reach a solution that satisfies everyone. • The “give and take” of compromise helps a relationship run smoothly. • You must be willing to give up something in order to reach a solution.
Cooperation • Working together for the good of all. • When is it important for cooperation?
Communication • A process through which you send messages to and receive messages from others. • Communication is critical because it lets others know what you feel, what you want and need, and what you know. • There are 3 basic skills associated with effective communication: speaking, listening and body language.
Qualities to look for in a partner… • Respect • Acceptance • Honesty • Trustworthiness • Dependability • Loyalty • Empathy- the ability to share another person’s feelings or thought.
