Presenters SchoolFinder.com Team Karen - Karen is the Web Content and Social Media Specialist at SchoolFinder.com. She is a first generation Chinese Canadian and is the first in her family to attend university. Karen enjoys reading, writing, travelling, learning new languages and watching theatre productions. She loves soaking in Canada’s multiculturalism and watching ethnic television programming.
Presenters Guest Panelists Evelyn – Evelyn Morrett is a young entrepreneur, who at the age of eighteen, created Teenwork.ca, to improve the way young people find jobs. While in high school, she, like many other students, was having difficulty finding work. The existing options for young job seekers seemed irrelevant, inefficient and time-consuming. It seemed like a job in itself! Finding work shouldn’t be such hard work…there had to be a better way! Evelyn graduated from high school with honours; she took a year off to start her company, and will be attending the University of British Columbia in the fall. She loves nature and protecting the environment is an important value of hers. Other loves include: discovering new music, rock climbing, snowboarding, slack-lining, and walking her two golden retrievers. She has lived in Edmonton, Mexico, and Saskatoon but enjoyed living in the mountains in Canmore most.
Presenters Guest Panelists Lauren – Lauren Friese is the founder of TalentEgg.ca, Canada’s leading online career resource for students and recent graduates. Lauren started TalentEgg in 2008, after earning her master’s degree at the London School of Economics, because she wanted to create a better way for students to transition from school to work in Canada. She also attended Queen’s University and has worked in consulting and financial services in the UK. Lauren was recently recognized by PROFIT Magazine as one of the Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30 in Canada. Cassandra - Cassandra Jowett is the Content Manager at TalentEgg.ca (but started as a summer intern in 2008). She is a recent graduate of the Ryerson University School of Journalism where she earned a Bachelor of Journalism in 2009. She has also written and edited for The Globe and Mail, National Post, The Huffington Post and Metro, and has been a contributing editor and writer for The Globe's Canadian University Report magazine for the last two years.
Presenters Guest Panelists Claire – Claire is the founder and Chair of the Canadian Intern Association. She is a law student at the University of Ottawa and currently working as a legal researcher in Toronto.Claire has done two internships: one at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC and another at the Ontario Ministry of Environment. Although she has had very positive internship experiences, she is concerned about youth unemployment and interns who are exploited. Claire completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Geography from the University of British Columbia. She enjoys bicycling, filmmaking, traveling, and meeting new people.

Making The Most Of Your Internship Internships vs. Entry Level Jobs • Internships - managers and supervisors are more than your mentors. • As you are free to try a lot of interesting things, you may even get your hands on projects unrelated to you job • Often your projects are small and short so you’ll see results (and get feedback) before your internship ends • Entry level jobs - you are hired to fulfill a role. • Not all managers and supervisors will teach you how to do your job • If you really want to get your hands on something interesting and unrelated to your work, some companies will allow it, but you still need to focus on your main job
Making The Most Of Your Internship 5 Tips To Succeed • Try new things. • Experience as many projects as you can • Ask for feedback. • Before, during and after your project or task • Take initiative! • Listen during team meetings, understand the current problems, research and surprise them with a proposal! • Use your time wisely. • Take time to learn something on your own, like reading industry news, learning a new skill online, writing in a different language, etc. • Other employees are your mentors too.
