NATIONAL PROTECTION AND RESCUE DIRECTORATE Definition: An independent, professional and administrative organization in the Republic of Croatia, which prepares, plans and manages operational forces and coordinates the operation of all participants in the protection and rescue system. • It started functioning on 1 January 2005, on the basis of: • Law on Organization and Jurisdiction of the Government Administration • Protection and Rescue Law • Decree on the Internal Organization of the National Protection and Rescue Directorate
CAME INTO FORCE ON DECEMBER 18, 2004 THE LAW REGULATES: Establishes the definitions within the protection and rescue system, The basic tasks of the protection and rescue system, Operational forces, Rights and obligations, education and training of the participants in the system, Tasks of the command and coordination bodies, Operation of the communication centers, International cooperation in the field of protection and rescue, Supervision over adherence to the Law. THE LAW ON PROTECTION AND RESCUE The Law was updated in 2007 according to SEVESO II Directive
BASIC TASKS Risk assessment and drafting of protection and rescue plans for local and regional self-government Preparation of mandatory guidelines for risk management, Monitoring and analyzing the P&R situation; recommending to the Government improvement measures, Collecting, analyzing and distributing risk and consequence information through a single communication system, Conducts activities related to the 112 system Organizes, trains and equips operational forces Drafts and conducts training programs, International cooperation

112 EMERGENCY NUMBER • Safety of people and society becomes one of the most important issues in the world today, • In 1998 EU nations accepted “112” as free international number for all emergency situations, • According to Protection and Rescue Law “112 Centre” is a unique centre for all emergency situations. Mission: to build 112 system which will represent efficient integration of various emergency subsystems in one effective system supported with best communication technology
