Definitions • Anorexia: having an intense fear of gaining weight, thinking about food and limiting the food she or he eats severely, even though she or he is too thin. • Bulimia: process of binging and purging. • Body Dysmorphic Disorder: persistent and intrusive preoccupations with an imagined or slight defect in one's appearance.
Who is affected? • 90% of diagnosed eating disorders are women, 10% are men • Historically, primarily upper and middle class white people from 1st world countries… • As global communications expand, eating disorders are becoming a global problem
