  2. Pressure Cooker? Peer pressure is a strong influence that people of a similar age or status place on others to encourage them to make certain decisions or to behave in certain ways. However, there is also positive peer pressure- when peers encourage you to make a right choice or decision. Negative peer pressure is the type you most often think of- someone trying to get you to do something that you know is wrong.

  3. What are Resistance Skills? Resistance skills are skills that are used when a person wants to say “NO” to an action or leave a situation. • Say “NO” in an assertive way. • Give one or two reasons for saying “NO”. • Make sure your nonverbal behavior matches your words • Avoid potentially dangerous situations

  4. Resistance Skills (cont.) • Resist pressure to engage in any illegal activity • Influence others to make responsible decisions • Break off relationships with people that do not respect your limits!

  5. Conflict Resolution Skills • Remain calm • Set the tone • Define the conflict • Use I-Messages • List possible solutions • Act

  6. Role Plays Rules for Role Plays: • Understand the role play objective • Pay close attention to the role play briefing • Get into the role, but keep it clean • Remember that roles are 100% fictional • Constructive feedback will be given immediately following the performance
