  3. Public Information Systems An information service – something that gives people information Something that helps people! Huh? What is a “Public Information System”? A service for everyone - so it must meet the audience needs Could provide automatically updated information

Town centre kiosk – an information point about the town Weather station – providing information about the weather Examples NationalRailEnquiries Flood warning system? A “Public Information System”? Even something like an TV guide – on screen or on the internet. Can you suggest any more? Traffic information system – in a car, via Teletext or on the internet.

  5. Why use ICT then? • All this information could be provided by a person e.g. someone sitting in an information booth or a TV presenter THINK: What are the benefits of using ICT for an information system?

  6. Our aim for this unit is to create an automatic system that will record and even predict the weather[Make sure it is better than the BBC’s] Today’s main task: Research and evaluate weather websites!

By the end of the lesson you will be able to: • Interpret live data from a selection of weather websites, • Research and evaluate weather websites using questioning, • Understand the benefits of using ICT for an information system? • Consider why different forms of data are presented in different ways, • Identify key features of a public information system.
