November 2018 FD TIG Summary for EHT Date: 2018-11-12 Authors: Slide 1
November 2018 Abstract Summary of FD-TIG report and future work for the EHT SG. The FD-TIG report is document 11-18-0498-08-00fd Slide 2 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
November 2018 Key Parts of the Report (11-18-0498-08) • Section 2: Use cases • Section 4.1.2 FD MACs in research papers • Section 4.3: Impact to 802.11 standard • Section 4.4: Prototype FD SIC systems • Section 5: FD Architectures • Section 6.1: Throughput gains • Section 6.2: Latency reduction • Section 6.3: Collision reduction Slide 3 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
November 2018 FD-TIG/EHT • FD-TIG focused on applications in which self-interference cancellation (SIC) would be applicable • MAC changes would be the focus of the project. • Project can be done with minimal changes to the PHY • Probably define reserved bits in the header • Possibly FD-specific preamble • EHT • Many good presentations on FD with frequency division duplexing (FDD) • SIC may help FDD methods by reducing guard bands Slide 4 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
November 2018 Potential Focused Scope Statement • “Defines methods for full-duplex operation of sub 7-GHz PHYs in the same channel.” • Full-duplex using FDD could be in the same or different project. Slide 5 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
November 2018 Straw Poll #1 • Full duplex in same channel should be part of a new amendment project, either as a standalone project or as a part of EHT, starting 2019 • yes • no • don’t care • Vote only for 1 option Slide 6 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
November 2018 Straw Poll #2 • Which option do you support: • Option 1: Standalone project on full duplex • Option 2: EHT project should include full duplex • Option 3: none of above • May vote for more than 1, vote by option #. Slide 7 James Gilb (GA-ASI, USD, Gilb Consulting GenXComm)
Future plan for FD-TIG? • Straw poll in FD-TIG • If FD becomes a part of EHT project, do you support the continuation of a separate FD-TIG to provide a focused group to discuss FD issues? • Not too many yes, a lot no. • Three possibilities: • Support for separate SG – work done in SG • Support for being a part of EHT – work done in EHT • No support, FD-TIG has finished its work.
