PhD Project • Analysis of Turbulent Thermal Convection in Small-to-Intermediate Aspect Ratio Containers Albanian Supervisor Prof.Pellumb Berberi ICTP Supervisor Prof. Joe Niemela And • experimental work and data acquisition. • advanced data analysis techniques for random signals
Work to be done in ICTP and Elettra (3 Months / Year) • Experimental Work • Consultations with the professor of ICTP • Analysis of the data taken from the experiments using ICTP computers which are equipped with the necessary software for this type of analysis • Use of ICTP library: journals and books, both in print and by electronic access
Work to be done in PUT (9 Months / Year) • Analyse experimental data from ICTP/Elettra • Consult with PUT and ICTP supervisors • Consult books, journals publications, etc
Difficulties • Unable to access Internet and E-Mail. (i) no way to transfer huge amount of data (order of GB) which are generated continuously. (ii) Unable to consult with the ICTP Professor. (iii)Unable to access the ICTP library. • no computers or necessary software to analyze the data from experiments.
Proposed Solution • An Internet Connection is needed to access ICTP. • A Server is needed to connect to the Internet in order to have access to ICTP Servers for data transfer. In this way we should be able to get data even when we are not present in ICTP • A Web Server is needed to publish the work done by the Department of Physics of PUT.
Conclusions Doing PhD in ICTP is a great opportunity for students from developing countries and in the same time with the help of this project a great solution for alleviating the brain drain Three months per year is a very short time to do some good research. With the help of Computer Power it could be possible not to interrupt the research during the period students are not at ICTP.
