Arts & Communications Occupations: • You are interested in jobs in the performing or visual arts. These can include music, dance, theater, or applied arts such as painting, sculpting and pottery. You enjoy being creative, using your imagination, and/or expressing your ideas and feelings. • Some careers in this pathway: • Entry Level: Auctioneer, Wedding Consultant, Cake Decorator, Merchandise Displayer, Singer, Dancer, Floral Arranger • Technical Level: Actor/Actress, Cartoonist, Dance instructor, Interior Designer, Graphic Designer, Make-up Artist, Photographer, Police Artist • College Level: Architect, Art instructor, Composer, Choreographer, Newspaper Reporter or Editor, Playwright, Instrumental Musician
Business Operations Occupations: • You are interested in jobs in administration, clerical, bookkeeping, stock control, or the financial operations of a business or agency. You enjoy working with people and office machines (computers, FAX, etc.) to plan and organize the efficient running of a company or organization. • Some careers in this pathway: • Entry Level: Bank Teller, Accounting Clerk, Food Checker, Receptionist, Ticket Agent, Records Clerk, Cashier, Clerk Typist, Proofreader • Technical Level: Escrow Officer, Secretary, Bookkeeper, Court Reporter, Paralegal, Inventory Controller, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant • College Level: Certified Accountant, Auditor, Budget Analyst, Underwriter
Marketing and Management Occupations: • You are interested in jobs in promotions, sales, advertising, management or planning. You like being persuasive, enjoy working with people, and see yourself as an ambitious and achievement-oriented person. The idea of influencing and/or leading others could appeal to you. • Some careers in this pathway: • Entry Level: Barber, Flight Attendant, Manicurist, Sales Clerk, Travel Agent, Umpire, Sales Representative, Guide • Technical Level: Building Contractor, Purchasing Agent, Chef, Fire Marshall, Interpreter/Translator (ASL requires college level), Real Estate Agent, Supervisor, Sports Instructor • College Level: Business Manager, Attorney, Judge, Lobbyist, Newscaster, Urban Planner, Legislative Assistant, Columnist/Commentator, ASL Interpreter/Translator
Science Occupations: • You are interested in natural and biological sciences, environmental issues, medical fields, or computers and emerging technologies. You enjoy researching information and solving problems using your observations, theories, facts, and/or technology. Social and Human Services Occupations: • You like interacting with others. You are interested in jobs in social research, social service, counseling, health and/or protective services. You enjoy helping others, understanding how society works., group interactions, and have a concern for people and their needs and problems. • Some careers in this pathway: • Entry Level: Day Care Workers, Home Health Aid, Dental Assistant, Teachers Assistant, Border Guard, Mall Carrier, Practical Nurse, Disk Jockey • Technical Level: Athletic Trainer, Corrections Officer, Medical Assistant, Law Enforcement Officer, Paralegal, Interpreter for Deaf, Dental Hygienist • College Level: Counselor, Teacher, Librarian, Physical or Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse, Minister/Rabbi/Priest, Engineer, Psychologist
Technical Occupations: • You are interested in jobs in mechanics, construction, metals technology, transportation, or electricity and electronics. You may also enjoy math, science, computers, engineering, and mechanical design. You enjoy using your hands and technological devices to design, create, and repair various items. • Some careers in this pathway: • Entry Level: Auto or Diesel Technician, Jeweler, Heavy Equipment Operator, Carpenter, Plumber, Baker/Cook, Animal Caretaker, Welder, Electrician • Technical Level: Aircraft Mechanic, Audiovisual Technician, Firefighter, Optician, Pilot, Machinist, Sound Effects Technician, Refrigeration Mechanic • College Level: Computer Engineer, Engineer, Forester, Ship’s Captain, Ultrasound Technologist, Computer Systems/Network Analyst or Manager
Training/Preparation: • Entry level = High School + as many as two years of additional training and/or education. • Technical Level= High School + two to four years of additional training and/or education • College Level= Four years or more of college education and additional training.
