Cast of Characters: Dan Humphrey- Penn Badgley is the actor that plays Dan on the show. He is the perfect fit because of his nerdy and sophisticated aspects. His personality and physical features are perfect. Serena van der Woodsen- Blake Lively is the actress that plays Serena on the television show. I find she is the ideal actress for the role because she fits all the physical aspects that are described in the novel. She also does a very good job portraying the bubbly personality that Serena has. Chuck Bass- Ed Westwick is the perfect person to play chuck bass. He has a sneaky personality as well as the rich boy edge. His physical features match the ones in the book perfectly. Blair Waldorf- Leighton Meester plays the role of Blair on the show. Leighton depicts the role of Blair perfectly, by maintaining her queen bee reputation and controlling ways. Nate Archibald- I would also keep Chase Crawford as the actor Nate. He maintains the over confident, rich kid that never obeys the rules, personality. Chase also the perfect person to play Nate because of his carefree personality.
Descriptive Sentences: Her skin was still nice and tan from the summer, but her face seemed young and scared, not nearly as sexy as it was suppose to look. It was rush hour, the subway was packed. Serena found herself jammed between a woman with a huge Daffy’s bag and a fat little boy with nothing to hold onto but Serena’s coat, which he kept grabbing every time the train lurched forward. The Star Lounge in the Tribeca Star Hotel was big and swanky, filled with comfy armchairs and ottomans and circular banquettes, so that the guest could feel like they were having their own private party at each table. Down in the men’s department, he ambled over to a counter and spritzed his hands with Gucci cologne, wrinkling his nose at the strong, Italian, male scent. Clack three-foot-high candles in tall glass beakers trimmed with peacock feathers and fragrant white orchids flickered everywhere.
Climax: The climax of the novel took place at the Pretty in Pink party when Chuck attempted to violate Jenny. This would be the climax because this is the first time that all the main characters are all together. Normally all the characters together wouldn’t be the climax, but in this novel a lot of drama surround each and everyone of them. It is the first time in over a year that Blair is seeing her ex best friend Serena. As well as Dan attempting to save his little sister from the boy that bullies him. If Chuck did not attempt to get with Jenny, the book would have ended completely different. There is a chance that Blair and Serena never would have come face to face. Without them meeting at the Pretty in Pink party they would have never reconciled and would continue to stab each other in the back. If the climax would have changed any it would have effected the rest of the book and possibly the whole series.
News Report: I am reporting live from the old Barney’s building on the upper east side. I am currently at the Pretty in Pink party held annually for breast cancer research. Their has been reports that Chuck Bass, an elite member of society, has attempted to take advantage of Jenny Humphrey, a new, inexperienced member of the upper east side. Rumors have it that she managed to call her big brother Dan for help. Dan showed up with Serena shortly after the call. Serena informed Nate of what his best friend was doing and it wasn’t long before Nate showed up with Blair. The past few weeks Serena has resurfaced on the upper east side, and this is her first encounter with Blair. At this point in time we know that before Serena left last summer she had slept with Blair’s now boyfriend Nate. Will it be an enormous cat fight, or will everyone kiss and make up? Tune in tomorrow for all the details. XOXO Gossip Girl
Conflict: Throughout the book the main conflict was between Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen. The two used to be best friends, but Serena went to boarding school for a year and they lost touch. When Serena resurfaced on the upper east side, Blair felt threatened. They grew up together and Blair was always in the Shadow of Serena. Once Serena disappeared Blair became the it girl. Blair needed to keep her popularity. Throughout the book she made several attempts to hurt Serena’s reputation. She started many hurtful rumors, sent fake messages to gossip girl, and didn’t invite Serena to the biggest party of the year. The conflict was resolved at the pretty in pink party, when everyone rushed to save Jenny. This is the first time Blair and Serena come face to face. They realize that they were fighting over stupid things and that they really missed each other. This whole conflict could have been avoided if Serena and Blair would have talked about their problems when Serena first came back. This would have saved a lot of time, and a lot of non sense.
Theme: This is the first installment in the gossip girl series, so calling the book “gossip girl” would make since. Of course there are many other reasons why the title fits perfectly. The book follows around a group of high school students from the Upper East Side in New York City. These are not regular teen age kids. They come from some of the richest families on the east coast. Everyone of them attends high class parties and events. One of the members has sent up an anonymous website called gossip girl. People can send in pictures and tips to the website regarding the privileged kids. Of course the website does not post good material, such as someone receiving an A on a test, or helping out the elderly. The website’s main focus is on the juicy drama that happens between the teens. All main characters were effected by this website at least one time during the book. Almost every time the website had a negative effect on their lives, with this they needed to demonstrate their power and courage to overcome the insult to their life.
