Early Life • As a young boy, ill with rheumatic fever, spent time alone with nature. • Incorporated natural themes and shapes into his works. • Received his architect’s diploma at age 36. • Signing his title diploma, the college leader said, “Who knows if we have given this diploma to a nut or to a genius. Time will tell.”

The Cathedral of the SagradaFamilia • Gaudi, a devout Catholic, devoted his life to building this cathedral. • 18 towers: Jesus, 12 apostles, 4 evangelists, Mary • Run over by a tram, taken to hospital for poor, refused to leave, died at 73. • Buried in midst of Cathedral.
His plans for the Cathedral were destroyed by anarchists during the Spanish Civil War in 1938. • 2007 was the date set for the completion, but the plan was not the same. • Still under construction in 2009.
