  10. My Research • Interest in MIP • Research in Image Processing during Masters • Future area Wireless Networks

  11. Introduction to Mobile IP • IP supporting Mobility • Advantages • Communication on the go • Seamless roaming • Real time communication i.e. Audio or Video

  12. Problems with Mobility in IP • Problem with IP • The network part of an IP address locates the nodes point of attachment. • Node needs to configure a new IP address when it moves from one N/W to another. • But this new IP address causes the existing TCP connections to abort.

  13. MIPV6 Solution • Mobile IPv6 uses two IP addresses per MN to separate localization semantics from identification semantics • transient care-of address Assigned by Foreign Agent • static home address does not change

  14. Route Optimization • Data packets can be directly relayed between the MN and CN called route optimization. • If the CN does not support route optimization then all traffic between CN and MN must be routed through home agent.

  15. CH MH Foreign network Home network HA FA Triangle Routing Add a level of indirection

  16. CH MH Foreignnetwork Homenetwork HA FA Route Optimization

  17. Route Optimization • If route optimization is used, a new COA is communicated to the mobile node’s home agent and to the CN. • This is called a home registration and a correspondent registration. • Without route optimization, the correspondent registration is omitted.

  18. Security Problems in MIP • When the CN receives a command to redirect a MNs packets, how can the CN be sure that it is the legitimate MN,rather than a malicious third node, which has send this command? • How can the CN rely on the mobile node actually being present at the IP address to which packets are to be redirected?

  19. Return-Routability Procedure. • It is part of a correspondent registration and consists of two tests 1)home-address test • the MN sends a Home Test Init (HoTI) message to the HA . The home agent forwards the HoTI to the correspondent node. • The CN sends in response a Home Test (HoT) message containing a secret Home Keygen Token. The HoT is sent to HA which forwards it to the MN’s current care-of address

  20. COA Test • care-of-address test, • During the COA test, the MN sends a Care-of Test Init (CoTI) message to the CN, which returns a Care-of Test (CoT) message containing a secret Care-of Keygen Token. The CoTI and CoT are routed between the MN and the CN directly. They do not pass the home agent.

  21. Use of Tokens • The mobile node needs both the Home Keygen Token and the Care-of Keygen Token to validate the correspondent registration:

  22. Standard CN Registration

  23. Optimized Correspondent Registration Using EBA

  24. Saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him. • The Ink of a scholar is more precious than the blood of a martyr. Thanks for your time and patience
