The Father and His Family Pastor Benjamin Conway
For This Cause For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole familyin heaven and on earth derives its name. - Ephesians 3.14-15 (KJV)
Which Family? • Only two families on planet earth! • Family of God • Family of satan • Born once = family of satan • Born twice = family of God
Which Family? • Only escape from the family of satan is to be born again. • You believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and you say out loud that He is God (Romans 10.9-10)
Now You Are In the Family… You need to spend time and energy getting to know your new Father! You can only know the Father through the Word. Not through feelings, not through experiences.
What the Word Says For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3.16) For the Father Himself loveth you because you have loved me and have believed that I came out from God (John 16.27)
What the Word Says The religious people of Jesus’ day only understood a God of laws and rules. They didn’t understood that God wants to be their Father, that God is love (1 John 4.16), that God cares for them and wants to meet every need that they have!
You Are Not Like Everyone Else Do not be like the rest of the world, because your Father knows what you have need of, before you ask Him. Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Matt. 6:8, 26)
Our Father Is Tender! Notice how tender the Father is! He knows everything you need! So do what Paul did: bow your knee, and speak to your Father. Remember you are family!
Understanding God So many Christians still think God as harsh and mean. They struggle to grasp His love for them, His care for them. Religion teaches us to be scared of God and shrink from Him. “A God who will punish you” – no! God is love. And Jesus came to show us that love!
Salvation is FREE! But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew... But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. Mark 14:68,71
Salvation is FREE! Peter denied Jesus David killed a man to cover up an unwanted pregnancy from his adultery Sarah laughed when God spoke to her and mocked Him Moses was a murderer Samson used prostitutes Jonah ran from God Isaiah was a man of unclean lips
Salvation is FREE! Lot was a worldly and wicked man Yet, the New Covenant says he was a righteous man (2 Peter 2.7) It is utterly unbiblical to say there is a price we must pay to be saved. All you have to do is believe that Jesus is alive and that He is God!
The Error of Religion The error of religion is that you must stop sinning to become a Christian. It comes about because people do not know (or do not care) what the word repent means. Repent means to change your mind about Jesus. To stop thinking He is a lunatic or a liar or a nice religious leader and believe that HE is fully God and that He died for your sins. (Acts 10.43) Salvation is receiving, not giving!
Repent and Believe And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15) Not “repent ye, and turn from your sins.” Biblical repentance is a change of one's mind about Jesus. Most gospel tracts talk about giving up sins – that is not Biblical! If you make salvation something you have to do, that is self-righteousness.
What is the Gospel (Dr.Ironside) The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past … Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.
Christian Life But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (Romans 4.5) Anyone who says a Christian has to do this or that to be saved or to stay saved is wrong! Why? The Father has done it all!
A Father Adds to Us Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? Or, What shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt. 6.31-33)
He Doesn’t Give and Take Away! Some people think God takes things from them. They think that the more they put God first, the less they will have. That is NOT what Jesus said! The more you learn about God and His kingdom, the more you GET! Because the Father loves you!
Don’t Worry About Tomorrow Take therefore no thought for the morrow (v. 34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow (NIV) Don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow (Message)
Tomorrow God is still going to be your Father God is still going to love you God is still going to care for you God is still going to provide for you God is still going to give good gifts to you!
Good Things If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much moreshall your Father in heaven give good things to them that ask Him? (Matt. 7.11)
Good Things Good Things: Healing (Acts 10.38) Prosperity (Jer. 33.9) Abundance (John 10.10) Husband/ wife (Proverbs 18.22)
How Much Does the Father Love You? Thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me (John 17.23) God the Father DOES NOT love Jesus more than He loves you!
Never Be Afraid This is why satan hates this truth! If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8.31) Man cannot hurt a child of God whom the Father loves and protects.
Never Be Alone! Behold the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone. And yet I AM NOT ALONE, BECAUSE THE FATHER IS WITH ME (John 16.32)
Never Be Alone! In every test and trial you can say: I AM NOT ALONE, THE FATHER IS WITH ME IF EVERYONE FORSAKES ME, I AM NOT ALONE. THE FATHER IS WITH ME.
Never Be Down! Some people have a pity party is they lose one friend! But you are never alone! The Father is with you! No more down days, no more blue days. The Father is with you!
Never Have a Care in the World! Casting the whole of your care – all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all – on Him; for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. (1 Peter 5.7)
Never Have a Care in the World! How do you deal with worry, cares, anxieties, concerns? Cast them all onto the Father. Cast yourself into His love and care for You! And leave your burdens there, with Him!
What Do I Do Instead? Do not fret or be anxious about anything… (Php. 4.6) But in every circumstance and in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving continue to make your wants known to God (Php. 4.7)
Constant Victory • Refuse to worry! • Ask the Lord • Thank the Lord continually
