  4. In Memory of Shirley Clark-Robinson (Sunset April 16, 2009) Shirley graduated from Shaw University with an AB degree in English and Education. She was an outstanding and popular student, and selected in 1951 as Miss Shaw University. Shirley was a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a life member of the Shaw University Alumni Association and an active member of the Washington DC Chapter since 1953 She was a role model for many young people graduating from Shaw. She worked faithfully on many of the chapter’s projects, often chairing the September meeting, the annual cookout, working on the chapter newsletter and more.

  8. About the President H. Claude Jones is the Program Manager for Runway Status Lights for the Air Traffic Organization of the Federal Aviation Administration. He is responsible for installing runway status lights that will increase runway safety at our nation’s busiest airports. Claude comes from a long line of Shaw Bears. His grandmother, mother (Ura High Jones), aunt (Eredena High Young) and brother (Johnnyson P. Jones) were Shaw University graduates. Claude’s mother also taught at Shaw University from 1964-1981. Claude played varsity basketball and was the Most Valuable Player during the 1977-78 season. He graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and received the mathematics excellence award in 1979. After attending Shaw University, Claude joined the US Air Force, completed Officer Training School, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. While in the Air Force he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1982, and worked as an Electronic Systems Test Engineer in the Air Force Armament Division. In 1995, Claude received a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management with a specialty in Systems Engineering from the University of Maryland. He is also a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College, and a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Manager. During his professional career Claude was an engineer, technology developer, and program manager. He has also been chairman of an EEO committee, PTA president, vice president, and legislative liaison, and a basketball coach and commissioner. Claude was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. He is married to Linda Brown of Montgomery, Alabama and has two children Christopher (21) and Kimberly (18).
