  2. Career Readiness and Common Core State Standards Students need to be prepared for careers that require at least some college to meet the needs of the job market of the future. Transition from post-secondary education begins at age 14 ½ in Illinois

  3. Funding Field Trips Apply for mini-grants from the school district’s foundation Seek out assistance from local service organizations or chambers of commerce Seek out other reliable education foundations and charities

  4. College Experiences • Start with small groups • Scout out cross-curricular activities or destinations nearby the college • Build relationships with access and accommodative services offices and admissions offices • Frontload activities related to college and careers

  5. Activities • eBooks • Career Cruising website • Career Day at schools or Career Fairs at colleges • Occupational Outlook Handbook website • College Outreach Visits for an indoor field trip at your school

  6. Transition Plans in High School • The IEP Vision Statements for career options • Take an introduction to college course during junior or senior year of high school • Independence skills needed for college
