CED Mission and Goals • The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is a nonprofit organization of individuals, institutions, and companies dedicated to improving all aspects of engineering education. • The Cooperative Education Division (CED) is an ASEE division for professionals in academia, business, industry and government who are specifically interested in and dedicated to the improvement and promotion of cooperative education. • Cooperative Education: An educational program that prepares the students for professional careers by combining academic training with practical work experience in industry, business, and government services. Co-op students typically alternate periods of full-time work with periods of full-time, on-campus study.

CEIA • For forty years, the Cooperative Education & Internship Association, Inc. has provided professional services to our members in cooperative education and internship programs in colleges, universities, government, and business/industry. CEIA, Inc. is dedicated to: • Promoting cooperative education and internships as premier models of work-integrated learning.

CEIA • Providing opportunities for professional development. • Offering state-of-the-art resources and information. • Advancing the field through research and programs. • Creating professional networks and networking opportunities through our conferences and list serve. • Committed to help our members improve their programs, strengthen their skills and assist them with preparing their students for tomorrow's workforce.

CEIA • CEIA was founded in September 1963. • The original mission: To provide professional development and resources to the field of cooperative education. • The first annual conference was held in September, 1963 at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Donald Hunt (63-65) of the University of Detroit was elected the association's first president.

CEIA • The original mission of the organization as envisioned by its founders in 1963 is carried out through an expanding number of training activities, an annual national conference, and support and encouragement for on-going research and publications. • CEIA is a member driven non-profit organization.

  16. Governance • The membership has a twenty panel board to represent its interests and directs the Association to meet its mission and goals. The President serves as the chief elected officer. • Elections are held yearly just prior to the annual conference.  Newly elected officers are installed at the conference in the Spring of each year.

Membership • The Journal of Cooperative Education and Internships, the international publication on experiential education that focuses on internships, cooperative education and work integrated learning.    Also you will find: • The Journal of Cooperative Education and Internships searchable archive • Proceedings or program highlights from regional, national and international conferences • Practitioner's Corner - practical non-juried articles and information,  examples of forms, agreements, and other practical tools • Manuscript and Research submission for any or all of the above sections • Book Reviews - solicited by the editors, posted and archived • Announcements of current activities relevant to scholars and practitioners, i.e. conferences, call for proposals, and research gatherings.

Leadership OpportunitiesParticipate at the committee level, on the Board of Directors, help plan conferences, become a trainer. Data & StatisticsCEIA conducts annual surveys that produce information, data and statistics useful to the field.

Membership CEIA provides and promotes professional development opportunities: • Training opportunities through The National Academy for Work-integrated Learning (NAWIL) • Local and regional conferences through our partner organizations • Annual CEIA Conference –Cincinnati, OH,The 2006 CEIA Annual Conference and Cooperative Education Centennial Celebration. The Centennial conference program bridges cooperative education's past to its future. It celebrates accomplishments of the field and contemplates the trends, challenges, and opportunities for cooperative education and other forms of work-integrated learning.
