In persuasive writing, you should… • Take a stand! • Give support for your position and elaborate your opinions. • Consider your audience. When your goal is to influence opinions, you need to know who your readers are and how they think.
Organization • 1. State your opinion. • 2. Present sound, relevant evidence. • 3. Begin or end with your strongest point. • 4. Use transitions. • 5. Use strong verbs and emotional language. • 6. Include a call to action.
Transitions • Organize your paragraph using transitions that show the most important reasons that support your point of view to the least important reasons.
Evaluate Your Writing • Does your paragraph focus on one topic? • Did you use valid evidence and logical reasoning? • Have you included a strong topic sentence that expresses your position? • Have you used precise and expressive language and appropriate connotations? • Have you followed standards of grammar, usage, and mechanics?
