  3. Homework 5 • Good job, overall • A few clarifications: • When you think about thesis, also think about the evidence of the WHOLE essay. • Topic sentences are the thesis of the paragraph. They should make an argument and have similar qualities of a thesis. • Make sure, in this type of homework (as with quizzes), that you are very specific.

  4. Quiz • In section two of chapter six, Hugh Crain’s book for his daughters is discussed. What is this book? How does it change our view of the haunting? • Who is responsible for Eleanor’s death at the end? Why? • Do we have a laying of the ghost? If so, what is it? If not, why? • Explain Mrs. Montague. How is she characterized? What purpose does she have?

Essay 2 • Reminder: • Peer review tomorrow • Due Saturday • 1,000 words • 2 critical sources • Topic sentences should move your argument forward (not the plot of the story/novel) • The majority of the support you use should be from the text • Avoid long quotes and paragraphs devoted to critical sources
