The Frame - Maintenance and tests • The regular maintenance and tests have been realised during the YETS • Cooling & Ventilation • 3 weeks per point for the SF, SU, UWMechanical cleaning of the cooling towers, Mechanical maintenance, Bugs fixing • Intervention mostly on the surface, but also underground (US and UA) on the air handling units • Cryogenics • The maintenance was realised on all the cryoplants • Heavier maintenance and consolidation were realised in IP4 (A) & IP6 (A), heavy corrective maintenance (repairs) was needed in IP8 (B). • Before the beam, some operational tests were realised by the cryogenics team- Cross check of the maximum free power for BS in S23/S78 (twin cryoplants) -- Setting up of the nominal configuration for all sectorsd with BE-OP • During the YETS, to minimise the risk related to the Helium lost:- The LSSs and DFB were emptied and were in GHe at 20 K.- The Lhelium was kept in the arcs except sectors 7-8 and 8-1, which were emptied, and in cold stand by with GHe. • Questions: • CV: same duration for EYETS? Same approach (only surface & underground during TSs) • CRG: Same baseline for EYETS? No Lhelium in two sectors LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
The Frame - Maintenance and tests • Electrical • AUG tests were realised (except BA80, 81, 82 and 85) :- on the whole LHC machine, Meyrin, Prevessin, … • The annual test of the electrical backup network (CERN wide) • The Auto-transfer test (LHC, Meyrin, PS, PSB, …) • Alarms and access completed successfully • Annual tests of alarms: sirens, ODHs and evacuation alarms on the whole LHC Machine & Experiments • The DSO test was realised in the LHC prior to start the powering tests • Questions: • The impact of the AUG tests on the cryo conditions must be defined BEFORE the EYETS • Therefore the related tests must also be defined (for ex. ELQA) LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656

YETS schedule overview • Main changes • ELQA campaign • Repair of transformer @P2 and impact on powering tests LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
5th Axis Collimators Many thanks to all for the efforts and commitment ! • In B4R1 and B4R5 (QRL side), the survey and vacuum teams face difficulties to align the VAMDA vacuum modules. • The vacuum chambers VCDOA and VCRLS are very close to TCTPV and TCTPH and can limit the movement of the 5th axis The chambers were moved closer to the collimators, without impact on the 5th axis strokes • The protection plaque between the collimator and the QRL in 4L1 have been removed after un interaction on the collimator movement • Lesson learned • Daily on site coordination needed LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
TDI replacement Excellent team work! Without delay! • TDI @P2 has been realigned (2 times) • TDI @P8 an additional realignment was realised after the bake-out, under vacuum, with a movement of 8 mm on radial direction (validated with VSC and SURVEY teams) • Following the realignment the RF fingers have lost contact with the RF screen • The problem was solved and a new bake out was performed LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
Beam Instrumentation • Installation of the tent in LSS4, to protect the BGV - EDMS LHC-BGV-EC-0004 • Provide mechanical protection • Protect the detector modules from external light • Reduce the air dew point • The change of ferrite of the Beam Wire Scanner was also completed in LSS4 Tent for the BGV in LSS4 Wire scanner and ferrite LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
Activities related to Experiments • Point 1 • AFP RP Stations: • 2 new RP stations are installed in R1 • The triggering cables and control cables are installed in R1 and L1 • WCC: the installation of the New Water Cooled Cables for ALFA in RR13 and RR17 is completed and the circuits are validated by ELQA Atlas AFP RP station Atlas AFP cabling WCC in RR17 • Point 5 • CT-PPS timing & tracking s. 45 & 56 • The pulling of 480m of heliflex special low-loss RF cable for CT-PPS in Point 5 is completed Cabling for CT-PPS LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
Activities related to Experiments: Issue • Point 1: New Water Cooled Cables for ALFA in RR13 and RR17 EDMS LHC-LJ-EC-0044 • The cables were installed in RR13 and RR17. • Prior to start: • - DFBL were emptied (no Liquid Helium, T around 20K) • Exceptional authorisation has been delivered (EDMS 1564706) and risk analysis done maximum Helium release 2g/sec • VIC was realised • During the intervention a plate fell over the DFBLB (RR17)and damaged a ceramic insulation and the gaseous helium recovery line. The personnel safety was never affected (potential He release <<100g/s)and the applied procedures respect the CERN safety rules. • The repairing was realised without issues and the DBFLB was heated up to room temperature. • Outstanding item: • Cryo lock out???When and where??? • For the time being under the responsibility of Thomas Otto LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
Inspection of WCC • Water leaks detected on the WCC and WCT • Point 5 left (RR53)- WCC • DFB affected : DFBAI • Circuits affected : RB • Cablesaffected : 1508810A (DFLAS.7L5.2) • Point 2 left (RA23) - WCC • DFB affected : DFBAC • Circuits affected : RB & RQF • Cablesaffected : 1204995C (DFLAS.7L2.3), 1204997A (DFLAS.7L2.4) • & 1204985C (DFLAS.7L2.5) • Point 2 left (UA23) - WCC • DFB affected : DFBAC • Circuits affected : RQD (extrémité du tube vers fourreau proche DFBAC) • Cablesaffected : 1204988C (RQD.A12.C6) et 1204987A (RQD.A12.C1) • Point 8 left (UA83) - WCT • DFB affected : DFBAM • Circuits affected : WC tube RB • Outstanding Items • Definition of responsibilities between EN and CV LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656
Other unexpected issues • Cables damaged during the opening LHC-CMS • Issue during the opening of the cable duct between CMS and LHC, for cabling campaign: • 5 cables were damaged: access system (1x), TOTEM (2X), ZDC (2X) • 3 cables of access system have been replaced by EN-EL • 2 cables for Experiments have been repaired by the Experiments • PM76 lift maintenance • Following the regular inspection and maintenance a major issue was found on PM76 Lift. • It was necessary to replace the Engine of the Lift and this needed 4 days for the intervention. Excellent management to find out solutions! LHC machine Schedule for YETS, INDICO 512656

Other unexpected issues • BTV in TI8 • Unexplained screen movement in the IT8 BTVI88119 • BE-BI needed to check the integrity of the instrument, • for which the injection line needed to be vented (more than 500m) • Excellent reactivity of vacuum team! • EMT405/2U transformer in P2 • Tightness issue on the secondary side of the transformer (joints) • Decision to replace the joints (not the transformer) • Intervention scheduled from 2nd to 10th March • New activity on the critical path! • Impact on Cryogenics and Schedule: • A Cryogenics reconfiguration from P2 to P18 was needed • The Powering tests were limited to the arcs 12 and 23 during the intervention • The timeslot for the cryogenics power test was unchanged (from 14th to 17th March) • The Powering tests in LSSs were postponed after the cryogenics power test • Sectors 12 and 23 have been ready for machine check out on Monday 21st March (+4 days WRT baseline) • Many thanks to EN-EL!!!
