  2. Visual Aids • I was inspired to make these visual aids because there is a little 2 ½ year old boy who is deaf in our room and these will help him. They are simple pictures to help him understand what we are playing with in our room and what time of the day it is in our room (breakfast, lunch, play time….) • These visual aids will also help some of the other younger children in our understand what we are playing with in our room and what time of day it is.

Materials, Cost, Time • Materials:camera, computer, printer (or bring pictures to get printed), construction paper, laminate paper • Cost: I used work supplies, such as construction paper, and laminate. So this project was fairly inexpensive, the pictures cost the most out of anything. • Time: I did about fifteen of them, and it took me a few days. I had to take pictures of all the items, then a different day got them developed, then put them together which didn’t take anytime at all.

How will it be used • This technology will be used by children who need help with transitions, memory, routines, or learn better using visual aids. • Notice each picture is labeled, this is one really good way to introduce new words into there vocabulary that they can visually see • It will be used during transition times, times when children are being informed on what we are doing next, or times when children are confused about what we are doing or what time of the day it is.

Benefits • It is used to clarify or enhance understanding of a concept • It information presented in a different format • Example: The teacher says it’s lunch time, shows a picture showing lunch time, and the word “lunch” is visible. • Helps children learn more effectively • Helps children use their visual capacity • Enhances learning • Helps break down information • Helps improve their memory skills

  9. What I learned • What I learned from this project was how easy assistive technology can be. This project was very useful to me and easy to make, and the it has been very useful and effective for all of the children in our room. • We are know working on a visual aid schedule for how you put your winter cloths on. Which I think will be very beneficial, like these pictures have been.
