(Meta-) Address & Data Classes Five (5) classes (or categories) are defined: • Address (organisation and employees) • Document (report, country profile, publication etc) • Datasets • Map (GIS system/service) • Project Each class/category is indexed by the thesaurus, have a defined set of mandatory and optional fields (e.g. title, abstract, description, URL, coordinates, etc) corresponding to the GELOS element set. Every data class is linked to a person within an institution. Data classes may also be link to other data classes (e.g. a project linked to output documents)

Address Class The address class is divided into two sub classes: • Institution address • Person address Institution Person • Name • Acronym • Director/head • Budget • Type (ngo,un,etc) • Total employees • Description • Scope of work • Email,tel,fax,url • Postal Address • Name • Description • Affiliation (GEO,etc) • Scope of work • Email,tel,fax,url • Postal Address *email is utilised by the system to ease manual maintenance.

  16. Data Classes The data classes may have sub classes depending on the class. For example, the document class has nine subclasses defined: book, journal, multimedia, video, article, cd-rom, disks, report. Data fields collected are dependent on the data class. For example: Multilingual formats
