Global Standards Collaboration (GSC) 14 Support convergences over NGN Chaesub LEE, ITU-T SG13 Chairman, followed by NGN Signalling and Testing Wei FENG, ITU-T SG11 Chairman
Highlight of Current Activities • Status of ITU-T SG13 NGN developments
Strategic Direction • Using connectivity from networks is becoming essential for all human life today and will have more influence in future life • Convergence over NGN is one of the best way to mitigate Climate Change, because NGN provide common networking platform for convergences • Develop capabilities to support convergences • Detailed Functions in Service Stratum: 4 approaches are now discussed since May NGN-GSI Event • Support Internal Convergences: • FMC/MM: Consent MMCF (Y.2018) and IMS-FMC (Y.2808) • IPTV: Content delivery & Storage (Y.CD&S), Info. Delivery Framework (Y.IPTV-IDF), Y.IPTV-TM (Traffic Manag.) and IPTV Interworking (Y.iptvintwrm) • Support External Convergences: Networked Vehicle (Y.NGN-Vehicle), Multi. Serv. Cap. in HN (Y.msc-hn-ngn)
Challenges • In case of FMC/MM • Level of supported services: Voice, Data, Streaming, Video • Level of supporting capabilities: e.g. Seamless Handover • * Need consideration between above two • In case of IPTV: see another Doc. • In case of Service Stratum • Integrated vs. Distributed and Unified vs. Diverged • Collaboration with Service aspect development • In case of external convergences • Clear boundary of NGN involvement • Collaboration with other relevant groups
Next Steps/Actions • ITU-T SG13 should more efforts to develop detailed recommendations for supporting FMC and MM with identifying target service such as “Seamless Voice services over FMC” etc. • ITU-T should accelerate development of relevant protocols to support FMC and MM collaborating with related SDOs • Joint activities with service related experts group like SG16 should be encouraged for better development of “Service Stratum in NGN” • And it is also recommended joint activity with relevant SDOs to develop recommendations for supporting “External Convergences”
NGN Signalling and Testing Wei FENG ITU-T SG11 Chairman
ITU-T SG 11 role and mandate • Responsible for studies relating to signalling requirements and protocols, including those for IP-based networks, NGN, mobility, some multimedia related signalling aspects, ad hoc networks (sensor networks, RFID, etc.), QoS, and internetwork signalling for ATM, N ISDN and PSTN networks. • This also includes reference signalling architectures and test specifications for NGN and emerging networks (e.g., USN). • SG 11 has three lead study group responsibilities on signalling and protocols, on intelligent networks and on test specifications.
Highlight of Current Activities SG 11 has completed NGN Protocol Set 1 which constitute a fundamental basis for initial implementations of NGN release 1: • Signalling architecture for the NGN Service Control Plane (Q.3030) • Signalling requirements at (SUP-FE) - (I/S-CSC-FE) i/f (Q.Sup.54), (AS-FE) – (S-CSC-FE) i/f (Q.Sup.55), Organisation of NGN Service User Data (Q.Sup.56), IEPS communications (Q.Sup.57 and Amendments to ISUP, BICC and DSS2 protocols) • Interface control protocols for RACF (Q.3300-series) Rs, Rp, Rc, Ri and Rw interface • NGN NNI and UNI signalling profiles (Q.3401 and Q.3402) • Signalling requirements and protocol profiles for CRBT and CRT services (Q.3610 and Q.3611) • NGN testing for the support of the compatibility of NGN technical equipment and services (Q.3900, Q.3901 and Q.3902) • EAP-based security signalling protocol architecture (Q.3201) • Authentication protocols for interworking among 3GPP, WiMax and WLAN in NGN (Q.3202.1); Requirements and protocol for the interface between a Transport Location Management PE and a Policy Decision PE (Ru Interface) (Q.3223)
Strategic Direction Accelerate study on: • Monitoring parameters for NGN protocols • Service test specification for NGN • QoS tests specification for NGN • USN and RFID test specification • Coordination of work on Emergency Communications within an NGN environment • Security Coordination For NGN Protocols • Consider, in collaboration with ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 6 standards for end-to-end multicast
Challenges • More coordination and cooperation with other SDOs such as 3GPP, IETF, ETSI, ATIS, IEEE, etc. • Complementary and consistent with outputs from other SDOs. • More work focusing on testing, QoS, Network attachment, Service and application and Emergency Telecommunications, etc. • New signalling and protocols work related to IPTV, M2M, etc.
