  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Review Asg #11 • Lesson: Triangle & Circle Theorems • Homework / Questions • Clean-up

  3. A Chinese Theorem – What is it? • The square of the diagonal of a rectangle is equal to a square on the side plus a square on the top or bottom. -- from the Zhou Bi Suan Jing (Zhou Dynasty China, 1046-256 bce) • Draw a rectangle on graph paper. • Draw squares on the rectangle’s side and bottom. • Draw the diagonal. • Construct the square on the diagonal, or measure 90° angles and side lengths to make a square.

  4. Two Triangle Theorems • The Pythagorean Theorem The square on the hypotenuseequals the sum of the squareson the other two sides. OR, If a triangle is right, then the square on the hypotenuseequals the sum of the squares on the other two sides. • The Triangle Angle-Sum Theorem The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180°.

  5.  : Definition & Theorems • Definition of : •  is the ratio of circumference to diameter. • = C⁄d • Circumference theorem: • If a circle’s diameter is d,then its circumference is d. • Circle area theorem: • If a circle’s radius is r,then the area of the circle is r2.

  6. Homework • Read Ch. 2 Lesson 5 (if not already done) and 6. • For Monday:Asg #12 • Tuesday:Asg #13 • Wednesday: • Asg #14 • Unit 2 Test

  7. To the lab • Tasks: • First:10 minutes on Khan Academy, 3 minutes on “the eyeballing game” (see Schoology for link). • Then, work on one of the following: • Constructions • “Problems on Geometric Figures” packet • Khan Academy problems • After: If you want, do one of the following: • “The eyeballing game” or “Manufactoria” – see Schoology • One of the assignments – Asg #12, #13, or #14. • Last 10 minutes: Finish & hand in your journal.

  8. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
