Goal of the project: 1. to investigate a method to facilitate emotion recognition from physiological signals. a) Subject of investigation is the electrical brain activity that occurs when a person is in a certain emotional state. b) This activity is measured by electroencephalography (EEG). 2. to compared to other biosignals, such as heart rate or skin conductance – sensors are applied directly at the head. a) Contrary, sensors that are used to measure e.g. blood volume pressure, skin conductance, or heart rate are generally applied at body areas, which are usually covered with clothes. b) Moreover, a person wearing sensors for EEG measurement is not delimited in use of hands.
Brainwaves types There are 4 categories of these brainwaves, ranging from the most activity to the least activity
Emotion 1. Emotions and their expression are key element in social interactions, being used as mechanisms for signaling, directing attention, motivating and controlling interactions. 2) Individual emotional state may be influenced by kinds of situations, and different people have different subjective emotional experiences even response to the same stimulus. 3) They are classified the different types of emotions elicited from the subjects through the physiological signals.
Emotion Categories • The human emotions are basically classified into three types: • Motivational (Thirst, Hunger, Pain, Mood) • Basic (Happy, Sad, Fear, Disgust, Anger, and Surprise) • Self Conscious or Social (Shame, Embarrassment, Pride, and Guilt)
Experiment:EEG • Electroencephalography (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity along the scalp produced by the firing of neurons within the brain • Used for epilepsy, diagnosis of coma, and brain death , diagnosis of tumors, stroke and other focal brain disorders • Measures both the frequency and amplitude of electrical activity generated from the human brain • 20–40 minutes time taken • Simple, fast, and inexpensive method. It is neither painful nor uncomfortable or time-consuming

Electrodes • Read the signal from the head surface • International 10/20 system for placing the electrodes in the head surface. • This system is based on the relationship between the location of an electrode and the underlying area of cerebral cortex • Each site of the head has a letter to identify the lobe and a number to identify the hemisphere location.
Emotional Data Collection • Subjects are asked to put on the headgear to obtain their brainwave • EEG device will transmit the bio-signals to the PC for recording • Another PC is used to present visual and aural stimulus
Bio-signal data were collected over four dry electrodes from F4, T3, T4 and P4 according to the International 10-20 standards • Fp2referenceand the left ear lobe was used as the ground channel Placement of electrodes for EEG

CLASSIFICATION USING BACK–PROPAGATION NEURAL NETWORK (BPNN): 1)we classify human emotion using BPNN. 2)the structure of BPNN

CONCLUSION • The accuracy of classification depends not only on the feature selected for classification but also depends on: (a) number of electrodes used for acquiring the EEG signal (b) number of subjects participated in the experiment (c) nature of stimuli used for evoking the emotions (d) type of classifier used for classification
