  4. What is a cultural hearth? • The place where aspects of a group’s culture begins is a cultural hearth.

  5. What are monsoons? What does the summer monsoon bring? • Seasonal wind that carries moist air from the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean to East Asia. • Summer monsoons affect the southeastern region, bringing in moisture and contributing to flooding.

  6. What is the “Ring of Fire”? An area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific.
