SSD AoWeekend • Exchange AoWeekend short response with someone else • Read the other person’s response – create 3 questions about his/her response • Give it back to the author • Answer the 3 questions in 5 or more sentence for each one • Give it back to the questioner • Read all the responses, select one and write 2 questions to the response • Give it back to the author • Write an answer to each question – each answer must be 5 sentences • Share with the questioner • Hand in your exchange with your AoWeekend

Guesses based on context • In an effort to curtail PDA at the high school, a new dress code was established where all students had to wear “kissers” from Dutch costumes so that if anyone tried to lean in close for a kiss, he or she would swiftly have his or her eyes poked out! • OR • In order to curtail spending, she religiously clips coupons and scours the Sunday paper for good sales. • Her concerns are so frivolous that when we were asked to brainstorm area problems we could address, she actually suggested that we could schedule appointments to have our hair highlighted since we were all looking rather drab and unattractive. • OR • Because she has everything anyone could imagine, we buy her frivolous items for her birthday— perfume, cds, DVDs. • I meant to make an innocuous remark, but the way the media has leapt on it, branding me a “hate-monger,” it seems my remark was anything but innocuous. • His scintillating wit always makes him the most popular guest at parties; everyone tries to put his or her name card next to his at the dinner table. • His temerity in accelerating on the curves of the raceway made his wife turn away in fear but earned him a first place finish.

Tuesday November 5thJB #21 What are the qualities that make for a great president? • Objectives: 1) assess how well works cited is being completed 2) identify the differences between APA and MLA format for sources 3) explain how arguments are structure 4) define claims, warrants and data 5) practice using claims, warrants and data in research 6) to narrow the focus and form a thesis • I can accomplish the following objectives: • Answers to works cited 2 the difference in APA style, then answers • Take notes on “Claim warrant data” handout • Make meaning of claims, warrants and data in writing my synthesis paper • Write 3 sample claims based on my research, then connect with data, then join with warrants to create a working thesis – see example on next slide
